GDYNIA
The town of Gdynia is inhabited by 255,000 people and
covers 136 km2. Together with Gdańsk, Sopot
and other neighbouring towns, Gdynia forms an important
part of a consumer market of over one million people.
The developed and strong economy of Gdynia includes
industry, services, trade, three shipyards, a seaport
and approximately 29,000 various businesses.
Gdynia has been awarded by the
Committee on the Environment, Regional Planning and
Local Authorities of the Council of Europe Parliamentary
Assembly three important distinctions: the Honorary
Flag of the Council of Europe, the Honorary Plaque of
the Council of Europe and the Europe Prize in recognition
of its international involvement in the following fields:
co-operation with twin towns, active membership in European
organisations, organisation of European economic and
political as well as cultural and sports events, propagation
of the idea of European integration at the local level
and activity of non-governmental organisations with
respect to European issues. |
